Summary

The Fratello Project has provided rural communities with access to healthcare services through the use and application of technology.

The Fratello Project has also allowed the inhabitants of Galeana village to become productive in other areas besides agriculture (such as textile sewing activities, using their own materials and local resources), providing them with tools and programs to achieve economic growth.

Innovation

The Fratello Project has developed different innovation projects in Galeana's community:

  • Telemedicine, which is a technology that consists of a special screen and holograms to be able to obtain medical advice from healthcare specialists who are not physically present at the patient's location.
  • Access to knowledge by building an interactive library to promote education.
  • Creating a small industry in the community to share and bring people's talents to others.

Empowering Rural Communities in Mexico

Inspiration

The founder's main idea was not only to become a businessman but also to create ways to empower people—to impact, transform, and break barriers in terms of trust and cooperation following a long-term commitment to society.

A second inspiration was to allow people to create things by themselves and become productive, rather than receiving beneficial assistance from government.

Finally, a third inspiration was to use technology and the concepts of Industry 4.0, which is a very strong trend in the state of Nuevo Leon nowadays.

Overall impact

The Fratello Project has created "El Castillo" Project. The overall impact of "El Castillo" consists in involving people in three main areas, which are: interactive libraries, telemedicine (in alliance with Tecnologico de Monterrey), and a textile sewing company named Casa Sofia. In addition, it has a positive impact on inhabitants from the Galeana community.

Having access to quality medical services in such remote locations is key for the welfare of the Galeana community, and by expanding access to education through an interactive library, community development is being promoted.

Finally, by creating employment opportunities, the project helps families with their income and fulfilling their basic needs. All of this improves people's lives in a significant manner.

Business benefit

The stakeholders of this project are: Fratello Project Organization (7 members and over 200 volunteers), Tecnologico de Monterrey, Casa Sofia, Create Your Own, SEMARNAT (a government institution) , SEDESOL (a government institution), as well as the Galeana community.

Tecnologico de Monterrey and the Fratello Project, through telemedicine, bring patients one step closer to healthcare services and medical specialists, taking advantage of state-of-the-art technology.

Casa Sofia obtains high-quality fabrics made by talented artisans in the region and actively collaborates with the Galeana workforce to transform and showcase their contributions as valuable assets for the brand.

Social and environmental benefit

SEDESOL is a government agency that promotes social development across the country and works inclusively with the Fratello Project to bring opportunities to the Galeana community.

Telemedicine allows Galeana inhabitants to obtain access to healthcare specialists and to surpass distance and resources roadblocks effectively. This cultivates people's trust and creates long-term relationships with them.
