Through great education, we will be able to create excellent human capital who are ready to overcome future challenge. We all understood that global economic challenges will also implies difficulty for any countries to fulfil 100% available formal jobs in the market.

Innovation

One of Indonesian entrepreneur Mr. Julijanto Ekaputra, also known as “Ko Jul” runs a small-medium enterprise company “Binar Group”. He has a strong passion to create the first free boarding high school to deliver young Indonesian entrepreneur. By having this free boarding school, he strongly belief that school alumni which are majority young entrepreneurs will be able to create more jobs opportunity for the surrounding city and communities and finally prosper. This will also help Indonesian government to solve recent issue of unemployment.

In early 2007, he started to roll-out his great dream by opening a free boarding school (SMA Selamat Pagi Indonesia) located in Malang, East Java. The school model is free of all cost for the students. Together with the school team, he defined appropriate syllabus and curriculum. Students come from poor economic level who could not continue school due to lack of economic support), student's portfolio should show diversity from whole provinces in Indonesia, student's religions should come from 5 different religions. The students will be graduated passing minimum score from “Ujian Nasional” (National Examination) and should also meet minimum internal score of PAKSA criteria: Pre-Attitude-Knowledge-Skill-Action. Syllabus-curriculum were consisting 30% theory and 70% practical were made in order to ensure school vision and mission.

Inspiration

His idea supports several United Nations (UN) global goals such as goal #1 (reduce poverty), goal #4 (improve quality education), goal #8 (reduce unemployment to support economic growth), goal #10 (reduce inequality) and goal #11 (create sustainability cities and communities). Of this, he spent 70% net profit from his initial business “Binar Group” as multi-level marketing, advertising, public training, food and beverage, agency plus have soft loan from his friend without any interest. He declared that the school would not collect any cost all to the students (not limited to school cost, but free also for living and activity cost).

He wishes his student will be able to leverage their skill and talent during 3 (three) years school programs such as art, music, mining, fishing, cooking, music, etc. With the school's reputation and capability in delivering young entrepreneurs, it automatically increases the company image and return on investment of his original business. Now, his initial/original business tremendously grow since 2010. Till today, he still continues spent 70% of his net profit business to school, although government have been started to give fund subsidy to school since 2011 as an appreciation and gratitude to his effort and commitment.

Finally, he wishes that once students have been graduated and become young entrepreneurs, they will be able to increase share value to society and environment, possess an equal education level, create work opportunity for economy growth and generate prosperity.

Overall impact

After 3 (three) years, in January 2010 Mr. Julijanto and school foundation team launch Kampung Kidz laboratory as part of school. It is a place for students doing real practice and demonstrate their skills along by adopting SEL principle which stand for “Student Experimental Learning” with really manage operational cash and income. Of this, school have been established some divisions such as restaurant division, engineering division, merchant division, show division, hotel division, farmer division, etc.

Time-to-time these laboratories become famous rapidly. Many local visitors fully interest to visit and obtain valued knowledge, motivation program, outbound program as well benchmarking program from several institutions and other schools. Kampung Kidz has offered lot of student masterpiece such as merchandiser, it was purchased by visitors and finally generate extra income to the school as well. The very famous merchandiser are Choco Banana, Honey and Medicated Oil.

In year 2015-2016, the school got support from BCA through PPA scholarship program (Program Pendidikan Akuntansi) for selected graduated students who want continue study in universities all over Indonesia. Secondly, there are lot of school alumni have been started open business with the partnership with local investors / soft bank loan. In certain situation, quite a number of school alumni also working in many companies with various roles and level.

Business benefit

The school's reputation and credibility recently admitted by government, institutions, banks and many others schools. Because of this, SMA Selamat Pagi Indonesia strengthen their position by enhance more mutual synergy with MIC business unit (Binar Group).

They have successfully launch “Transformation Centre” which consist: Kampung Kidz, Training and Motivation Program, Hotel, Tour and Travel and Restaurant with total 167 students and 23 lectures. This business units is well operated by school alumni, grade 11th and 12th as part of dedication and loyalty to their school founder Mr. Julijanto.

School foundation team explain that holding company Binar Group through the passion of Mr. Julijanto in opening the free boarding school have clearly shown significant increase on reputation and revenue. Recently, Binar Group business services not only cover domestic but have been reached until outside Indonesia related to the public training and agency.

Social and environmental benefit

Through this sincere idea from Mr. Julijanto and supports by school foundation team to open free-boarding school, it was clearly proven that he has achieved his dream to improve economy growth in term of reducing unemployment, increasing economic growth opportunity through new small-medium-entrepreneur, improving social well-being in local city and communities and also increasing education level. He wishes, more-and-more people in Indonesia will get better education in order to leverage life quality so they can play an important role and give significant contribution to the country.
