This innovation responds directly to SDGs 12 and 13, since the reuse of PET material reduces the pollution that affects the planet and climate change.
The company recycles PET material (plastic bottles): it grinds them, processes them, and transforms them into a plastic sheet that they use to make all kinds of advertising materials for their clients in Bogotá. They are helping to reduce the amount of plastic in the streets, rivers, and parks of the city, acting in favor of the planet by reusing a material that lasts many years before degrading. They are achieving responsible consumption of this type of material and helping reduce the impact on climate change.
"Initially, it occurred to us because we needed to find cheaper material to produce, but everything changed completely; we realized that something could be done and that we were generating a change in contamination. We no longer sold as separate companies, we sell as a consortium that has a product that generates an environmental solution ... we already have in our head the consciousness that we help to do something, although we have to transmit to more people the consciousness of recycling."
They generate a positive impact on the environment by reducing the amount of PET material, which is a strong pollutant of the environment. The ideal is to be able to clean the city completely since currently they collect approximately 700 tons of this material.
Since they started working with this material, costs have decreased considerably since working with recyclable plastic bottles is cheaper. It has allowed them to expand their clients as more and more companies are interested in reducing the impact of their operation, and they have also employed more than 600 recyclers.
Society: "I have more than 20 families working in the factory who depend on this. ... There are more than 600 recyclers who bring us and select the product; however, we have to get to the base and teach them the importance of recycling."
Environment: "We have achieved that some recyclers understand the importance of preselecting the material, that they understand that the lid is a material, the cork is another, that the labels have to be removed. It is a solution that can be given even [though] it is so small."
