Overall impact

Trelleborg AB introduces some of their main innovations and achievements contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in their latest annual report: Zero hunger (G2) - Trelleborg’s tire solutions contribute to better crop yield and more sustainable agriculture by saving energy and preventing soil compaction when ploughing. Good health and well-being (G3) - Trelleborg has been developing Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) which is a main component in microneedle patches. Microneedle patches make it possible to use patches to inject large-molecule substances, such as insulin.

Clean water and sanitation (G6) - Trelleborg’s trenchless pipe sealing technology seals water pipes inside, from manhole to manhole. This protects water resources in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. Affordable and clean energy (G7) - Trelleborg’s sealing profile solutions provide and easy and efficient way to seal solar panels and guarantees a long service life for both the solar panel and the building under.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure (G9) - Pit Stop Line is a new feature in Trelleborg’s tire selection. When an old tire needs to be replaced an orange mark appears on the tires surface. This helps to achieve maximal service life for the tire and contributes to sustainability as well as safety. Sustainable cities and communities (G11) - Trelleborg’s watertight sealing technology is used worldwide to protect from water damages in cities and cultural sites. Climate action (G13) - NjordGuard is Trelleborg’s cable protection system for wind power. It allows safe and sustainable transportation of electrical power from the wind farms to the shore.

Business benefit

Trelleborg has done a good job maximizing shareholders value while channeling its focus towards more sustainable future. Trelleborg’s commons stock, TRELB:SS, has beaten the Stockholm 30 index, OMX:IND, continuously. Again, no causality can be proven, but it is safe to conclude that Trelleborg has done a good job maximizing shareholders value while channeling its focus towards more sustainable future.

Social and environmental benefit

Trelleborg has clearly adopted the UN SDG’s as an organic part of its business. The Group has launched new product lines and innovations with the aim to contribute to sustainability. The Group has also done this while keeping its investors happy and share price up. The Group reports minor impairments on the field of employee health and safety and CO2 emissions. According to Trelleborg this is due to recent acquisitions of new units. Nevertheless, it is an issue that needs to be addressed in the future. Further, the Groups sustainability reporting is on an impressive level. For further developments it would be necessary to get more accurate data and statistics on how much does Trelleborg actually contribute to sustainability and hence compare it to industry averages and its main competitors.
