As Gurmeet has been in the architectural space for close to a decade now we discussed the main driving force for her plunge into green architecture. She says, "Architecture should be green, for me, green architecture is a pretentious thing to say, one is being thoughtful and like architecture, as I said is a thoughtful act of building. You need to be sensitive to nature, to the environment, and because every space you design is for the human and any human cannot live disconnected to nature so we design accordingly. If you consciously design right from the beginning, then it would correspond to the context that it would interact with nature around it. So architecture cannot eliminate nature, any design for that matter. It shouldn't be.
I think green architecture only applies to people who didn't give it a thought in the beginning and are only realizing it now."
Incorporating eco-friendly architectural practices in today's business, though looks like a trivial thing for many, it contributes greatly towards the environment and towards achieving the SDG’s.
For any successful vision, there needs to be an equally strong and high driving force to bring about that particular change. As Gurmeet gleefully says, "Architecture is a thoughtful act of building", to bring about this thoughtful act into reality one needs to be inspired from even the most insignificant elements around them. She adds, "There wasn't any inspiration as such, For me, architecture or designing would always start from feeling So I would always go on my site, look around and feel the features, see the wind direction, sun direction, see the landscape and texture of land, soil and plantation. All these factors are taken into consideration when you design. To me, it was pretty obvious to keep all these contextual factors of site and surroundings in mind while designing, even if that meant building less. It would be okay if the footprint would be small rather than I cut a tree."
"The minute you have shade, it automatically brings down the temperature hence nature would solve so many of your problems"
"I believe any architecture should have these things as basic requirements and that's what we have built our idea on."
The construction sector is answerable for up to 23 percent of air contamination, and everything from sourcing and delivering materials to shipping them to real development procedures can affect nature. Green developers like Studio Momo are bound to utilize maintainable sourced materials and utilize increasingly inexhaustible materials, for example, bamboo rather than hardwood, which assists protect with foresting biological systems and keeps more trees alive to sift carbon dioxide through of the air. Green plan can likewise improve the air quality inside a structure by coordinating vegetation that cleans the air and utilizing materials that discharge fewer contaminants like unpredictable natural mixes and formaldehyde. This improves the well being of both the individuals who invest energy in the structure and of the earth. Development additionally delivers a ton of waste, which green manufacturers attempt to keep away from. Green plans use reused materials, abstain from sending abundance assets to landfills and will once in a while even re-purpose a current structure to maintain a strategic distance from destruction.
Awareness about this concept has popularized. People are more concerned about their health. This has been happening because even small kids are catching diseases like asthma. People are gaining insights on being more eco-friendly. That's why people are adopting safer and greener homes, they want proper cross-ventilation, big and green courtyards, they have started understanding that glass does not really work well among many other harmful things. Thus increasing the business for their company, Studio Momo.
"Green Architecture is something which doesn't even exist, for me if it's architecture it has to be invariably green" - Gurmeet
People must be sensitive towards nature, towards the environment. Architecture is something which corresponds and interacts with nature around it so it has to be included which building not just homes but even commercial buildings. People today want something good to look at but they also want human friendly or rather health friendly buildings. They want to feel the breeze, feel the grass with their feet, feel the air through the ventilation provided in their homes. That is where the innovation of eco-friendly architecture of Studio Momo's comes into the picture.
This concept of green buildings not only reduces or eliminate negative impacts on the environment, by using less water, energy or natural resources, but they can, in many cases have a positive impact on the environment at the building or city scales by generating their own energy or increasing biodiversity.
