Summary

Manggari is a successful jewelry design and manufacturing company founded in 2004 and based in Mexico. Manggari believes that the success of its brand, and the importance it has had, is based on the work of all the women who collaborate in it.

The Manggari team is made up of all women, with different stories but one that motivates them: being able to obtain a stable income, care for their families and additionally have the possibility to generate extra income for themselves, relatives, or some people in their community.

The scheme in which the collaborators of Manggari work is the following: in the mornings the collaborators work in the workshop designing and manufacturing jewelry, and they are on a weekly payroll with all the legal and social benefits.

Innovation

The scheme in which the collaborators of Manggari work is the following: in the mornings, the collaborators work in the workshop designing and manufacturing jewelry, and they are on a weekly payroll with all the legal and social benefits.

In the afternoons, the collaborators attend to their families and if they want, they can take materials home to elaborate on pieces in their free time, for which they receive additional income.

Amara: "The collaborators can train family members and people in their community in the design and manufacture of jewelry, and these people can produce it for Manggari and earn income from their work." In this way, they are getting help to their community and becoming agents of change.

Speaking of the business model of Manggari, it is important to say that the brand is not sold by department stores, but rather through a network of women who have the need for extra income and can market the jewelry without interfering with their work in offices or with their roles as mothers and heads of family. They promote fair commerce and no intermediaries between their products and the final user. (All the net income is for the saleswomen.)

No one has a contract to work or sell Manggari jewelry, but it's so incredible that in 13 years, just a couple of people have left the company, and the rest are very happy to continue working here. "The majority of the women who work here do not want to leave; they comment that this work benefits them when they have economic needs as well as to have a balance and take care of their family."

Inspiration

Maquis: "The only inspiration that these women have for the operative components of their company is to treat the collaborators as they want to be treated in any job." Getting the time to care for their families, establish their personal lives and be happy... as simple as that.

About the jewelry design, they try to get their own trends and patterns, using Mexican creativity as a very important component and trying to use Mexican materials in the process.

Overall impact

Over the course of 13 years, they have realized that they have made a strong impact on their staff, since none of their collaborators have wanted to leave due to causes attributable to work, treatment or the chain of command.

Those who have gone left to find new horizons or activities that are more profitable.

Maquis comments: "We're happy to provide new jobs, and our current employees ask for applications for their friends, family or community members."

Another impact is that whenever people have a special economic need, they seek help in the company, requesting some extra third-party production.

The community of collaborators has a lot of love and respect for each other because the company has always supported them.

Business benefit

The benefits that the company and the brand have in addition to the economic ones lie in the loyalty and the effort that the employees show day by day.

The care with which they do the work is remarkable, and the affection and pride with which they design is notable in every piece of jewelry that the brand sells.

People take care of the work and take care of the brand, and in return they are always supported in having a job, a steady income and an extra income. In addition, they obtain support in being able to generate work and extra income for relatives and the community of the collaborators.

Social and environmental benefit

The social benefit is reflected in the well-being of families and the community of collaborators as well as decent and well-paid jobs, which enable them to perform as individuals and take care of their family.

A very different approach to the exploitation of workers, children or women in situations of vulnerability, Manggari seeks that women who work with them lead a balanced life and get fair or better income with which to confront their needs.

Amara commented, "We are not here to make some difference, we only try to treat our collaborators as we want to get treated in a regular job."

Without long hours of work, production levels are optimum and those who require extra income can work on their free time. This allows them to fulfill unforeseen needs and work extra for special occasions like the holidays or meet emergencies such as an illness or an accident.

Maquis commented, "The most important thing is to provide our collaborators with the assurance of their paycheck every week, and the opportunity to increase their family income. The benefits of our company are being added to with their effort and the passion for the work."

Maquis also commented, "Amara and I are proud of our collaborators. They are so professional and have a lot of expertise, so when we get stuck for ideas about a new model or solution, they propose ideas about contributing solutions."

Amara: "It's so comforting to us that they care about the brand."
