Renovapack's products are made from natural fibers: corn polymers, sugar cane, wheat and PLA (Polylactic acid); which is biodegrade from 3 to 6 months in a compostable environment. All products comply with the International Protocol ASTM 6400 and its biodegradability is certified by the BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute).

Traditional food containers protect the product, are cheap, and seem to last forever. However, its durability on earth is a serious problem for the environment. To make matters worse, they are manufactured from petroleum products, which are non-renewable sources of energy. On the other hand, biodegradable plastics used in Renovapack products are obtained from renewable sources, such as corn.

A material is biodegradable when it can be degraded to simpler substances by the action of living organisms, and thus is removed from the environment. The reason why traditional plastics are not biodegradable is because they have too long and compact polymers to be attacked and degraded by decomposing organisms. But plastics based on corn polymers have a structure that can be destroyed by microorganisms, and that's why Renovapack's products are innovative and better for the environment.

Inspiration

Renovapack was created because Mr. Humberto Cantú, along with a work partner, had the aspiration of contributing to a less contaminated environment. The story of the foundation of this company starts with them being involved with some of the materials that Renovapack uses nowadays, so that was the moment they realized they could use them in a way that would not only make a good business but it could also be sustainable. The purpose of the company they founded was and still is, to meet the needs of people who use disposable containers, but in a biodegradable way, always providing the best service and conveying the message of a more sustainable life, compromised to building valuable and permanent relationships with each of them.

They were too worried about the gigantic amount of plastic that is being used today, that they used their desire to help the planet as a motivation to develop this idea and start this project. They started looking for what the market needed and the materials they could use and afterwards they started producing, stated Humberto Cantú.

Overall impact

Mexico only recycles 11% of its waste. Because this percentage is so low, it is important to develop alternatives that are biodegradable.

"Our main purpose is to have a positive impact on the environment. It is not only a business where we sell our products and people buy them, it is a cultural movement in which the goal is to make people aware of how the products that Renovapack offers have an added value," explained Humberto Cantú.

By using biodegradable materials they are reducing the amount of plastic used in common products like these containers. While plastic takes about 500 years to degrade, the production of Renovapack is 100% organic which means it can become compost for the ground or at least degrade in a period of 60 to 180 days. As more and more individuals and companies start using these products instead of the ones made out of plastic, we will be able to reduce waste and help the planet.

Business benefit

Despite being a sustainable business they earn profits from the products they offer. The products offered by Renovapack are distributed to the entire Mexican republic, so the company makes sure that the shipping cost is not too high that the sale price and its business benefit are affected on a large scale. This is why Renovapack has made alliances with the main courier and parcel companies to reach the best possible price that suits all cities in Mexico. They are able to have hundreds of customers around Mexico thanks to their logistics, innovative billing and order processing processes.

It is a profitable business because the tendency to buy green products is on the rise.

Social and environmental benefit

One of the main environmental benefits of Renovapack's products is that they contribute to stop generating garbage that is not biodegradable, solving the problem of the long time required for oil-based plastics to disappear, apart from the fact that they become nutrients for the soil. Regular plastic stays in our environment for 500 years and a minimum percentage is recycled. Their products end up decomposing and disappearing in 60 to 180 days making it a new alternative for people and companies that use disposable products but want to be more eco-friendly and reduce contamination.

In addition, it reduces the additional costs of waste management, especially if used extensively by the food industry. The process of creating this type of polymers generates lower emissions of toxic gases in case of incineration and is efficient cleaner of the production chain.

Also, as the use of this type of products becomes more popular, people begin to care more about the environment creating a culture of environmental awareness.
