The Conder

The Conder restaurant was founded in 2014 and changed its operating structure in the end of 2015. It used to be a typical restaurant, all the dishes has a sole price, and has more local food like steaks, burgers. However, after 2015, they changed to an international buffet, which provides Japanese and Chinese food mostly (The Conder,2017). The reason for this changing is basically because the owner changed. “We want to build a new team and run the restaurant in the ideal way as we imaged,” says the new owner, Wilson. The Coder restaurant did achieve some of the sustainable development goals based on the interview and my personal observation, because I worked there for more than 3 months. To take a strong one to start with, #12, responsible consumption and production, that means to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (Sustainable Development, 2017). As a restaurant, the Conder did a good job in the environment aspects compared to the other companies in the same industry. They use non-toxic products to create a clean and healthy eating and working condition for both customers and their workers. They regularly recycled their office suppliers such plastic bottles and used paper. They monitor and records their greenhouse emission and water usage every month. Meanwhile, they use energy-efficiency equipments like the energy saving lights, led lights and energy star refrigerator. Back to the time I work there, I was told to sort the garbage carefully to help them recycle the useful materials. Moreover, they have the strict timetable to turn on and off the lights, the AC and other equipments that use energy and generate greenhouse emission. The other significant goal is #8 that they achieved when operating the business, decent work economic growth, which stands for promote continuously economic growth and provide decent working opportunities (Sustainable Development, 2017). The Conder restaurant provide a good working condition as mentioned before, also, they have high flexibility for their part-time workers. They don’t have any discrimination while recruiting workers, it doesn’t matters if they are men or women, if they are from china or Malaysia. Once I was chatting with my supervisor, who is responsible for recruiting staff, about the standard to hire a person or not. “It’s basically only depend on their performance and their available working time,” says my supervisor. Thus, I believe the Conder is doing a great job in providing decent working opportunities in order to help the economic growth since more people are getting the opportunity to work and generate part of the economy as they are putting efforts to their work. Those works that the Conder have done can be a really good model for other similar companies in the same industry to follow. Their efforts on being environmental friendly are quiet significant for the society. Imaging if all the restaurants can do the same, our energy crisis will have less stress on us and it can help to build a more sustainable environment for human to live. Meanwhile, the great workforce is not only good for the company itself, but also for the stability of the society, people will have better living standards and be more happier.
