Innovation

The idea behind Conclave is simple, as mentioned by Anasthasia: "We want to build a place where independent creative entrepreneurs and professionals can gather, communicate and support one another. Conclave’s Latin root is to congregate and therefore, their aim is to create communities of Social enterprises, e-commerce, and even social movements. Basically, the main reason we form communities and to grasp these groups and start-ups is because they set the innovation, they cultivate the knowledge and creativity that sets apart our innovation from competitors. In other words, these corporations and start-ups give us the competitive edge. Every Co-working space has a niche. For example, Cowork Inc., their niche is a social enterprise but for Conclave they focus on technology start-ups and grabbing that niche and creating a community. Conclave prepares a space to gather up communities and where ideas and innovations are generated through the connection and events the firm creates. Conclave is established to support creativity in each of their members".

"Innovation is all about collaboration and the forming relationships with these communities is what drives our business. (Social Relations) In this digital era, people are no longer constrained by cubicles and overweight desktops. Sometimes people can be distracted/procrastinated from their pets, homes, or even terrible Wi-Fi connection, and then, this is why Co-working is developed. Not just to work alone, but to connect and developing your craft as a community."

At conclave, people don’t just have space to set their laptop but they are also encouraged to interact with other creative individuals, share stories and ideas, reference materials from Conclave’s library, organize meetings, attend workshops, and much more. Their business offerings even feature Expresso refills, personal lockers, free daily printings, and even a rooftop for air. Another interesting fact is, they’re open 24hrs/7days a week.

A private office in a coworking space is highly beneficial. Why? People have access to both main space and even the network place to hang out in the communal areas. Even with a private office, people will still have access to the other companies within the site, as well as new incomers coming and going. Companies will also have leverage to privacy as well.

Anasthasia Herdiansyah expressed her excitement over Conclave’s CSR, “They do a pretty freakin good job because we support the millennial generation of local entrepreneurs in accelerating the young minds to improve the welfare of Jakarta. Not just Entrepreneurs, but we actually support local film industries to broadcast their films or short films at our site. So we even support the creative aspect as well.” #sharingatconclave is the firm’s regular monthly held events that provide sharing and networking sessions for their members and peoples to develop their self with various topics ranging from business development, entrepreneurial leadership, creativity, arts, and many more. Plus it’s free!

Overall impact

This innovation shows the positive results to the company, local communities and environment. This is showing flourishing 4P’s (People, Profit, Planet, Progress).

Inspiration

Innovation could be defined as the process of creating value added of the existing condition.

Innovation is one of the possible approaches to deal with the complex challenges. The challenges may come from the environment, health, poverty, education, availability of food, employment and so on.

Innovation is not an easy job, but it can be done. Tenacity and hard work is definitely required to get the innovation successfully performed.

In this case, Conclave had 2 college students studying in Bandung, Indonesia at that time and realizing that there are were no places to study. At home there were too many distractions such as their dog, siblings, or even chores. The café, the prices were expensive for college students and the Wi-Fi availability wasn’t guaranteed. So ultimately right after college, Aditya Hadiputra and Marshall Utoyo decided to curate a place for free lancers, solo Entrepreneurs students, start-ups etc. This is an alternative working space as well as community.

Business benefit

Conclave’s business revenue is based on membership fees, event space, and private offices.

Social and environmental benefit

This initiative is also positively impacting the community and environment. The community is benefiting from having a good quality access to networking, new education, and a better productive working style, which leads to initiate the community’s economy improvement.

And how about the environment? For sure, it will be benefiting the environment as well. The more co-working offices there are, the less construction and less space consummation for a greener and better planet. With Co-working, less electricity bills for buildings not necessarily needed and that would also help climate changes with less production of coals generating electricity.
