Summary

doTERRA LLC, was founded in 2008 to provide options for people in their self care, health, and way of life. In their ventures they have made commitments to improve the lives of others in sustainable and innovated ways. Some of these was have included:

  • Co-Impact Sourcing Innovation
  • Water for life
  • Solar pumps
  • Sustainable jobs
  • Healing Hands Foundation

Innovation

Co-sourcing has been doTERRA's way of creating sustainable work through partnerships with countries to produce and maintain the highest quality of products. doTERRA partnered with a local distillery in Haiti to harvest and produce vetiver oil. The village that harvested vetiver wanted to but it was not paid enough to sustain their families, send children to school, and the village had to walk 3 hours daily to get non-drinkable water as there was no running water in the village. Haiti is one of the worlds lowest income areas. doTERRA executives met with the local people and the distillery manager to commit to making vetiver harvesting a sustainable job as well as install a well so the village has drinkable water with solar pumps.

Inspiration

It is inspiring to see the change doTERRA created by their choice to invest in a community that needed help to improve their way of life. The fact that families can now send their children to school and and know there is safe and drinkable water in their village. They didn't just do what they needed for themselves but they displayed an investment in the people. It is also inspiring that doTERRA send their top executives to Haiti such as Emily Wright. She shared that when they learned the "desires of their (Haiti people) hearts" they had to "make a difference cause that's what we stand for."

Overall impact

It is evident that doTERRA leads with environmental, social, and ecological awareness and not only desires to make a difference but makes a difference. The overall impact that doTERRA has made in their innovations is growing partnerships, better education opportunities for children, sustainable life for counties who struggle to get by, and in some cases a sense that someone cares. People in this village can get drinkable water without walking 3 hours daily now. Their health and and way of life have changed to allow for focus on building forward.

Business benefit

Gaining a commitment from farmers to only sell to doTERRA as well as pride in the work to produce high quality oils are some of the benefits gained by doTERRA's co-sourcing innovation. The business benefit also includes a reputation for quality and caring partnerships. When a company demonstrates their drive to help others is makes people want to help, join, and feel sense of making a difference. This is everyone from top executives to the producers, to the marking, to the customers.

Social and environmental benefit

The difference doTERRA made in Haiti to bring water and money to an area that struggled to make it builds pride and hope in the locals. Helping an area make a difference for themselves, their children, and the community is huge.

doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing

doTERRA works to improve lives and communities throughout the world. Many of the essential oils offered by doTERRA are sourced in developing countries, where the growers and distillers are often at the mercy of third parties. doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing helps create coalitions of growers and distillers that ensure local communities receive fair and timely payments to support their families and communities. doTERRA works with these coalitions to provide the resources, tools, and training necessary to ensure a long-lasting partnership.
