The Materials Innovation and Recycling Authority (MIRA) was founded in 2014 and is a quasi-public organization that turns municipal solid waste into useful materials, as well as creating energy from refuse-derived fuel. They are currently partnered with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to ensure their innovations are within the checks and balances of the ever-shifting landscape of recycling.
